Tokyo Capsule Tower to Give Way to Hotel

The Nakagin Capsule Tower which was dismantled in 2022 will be redeveloped into a hotel. The site which originally provided for residential space and was intended to be rejuvenated every 25 years is located in Ginza, an affluent and popular destination for tourists.

The transformation of the project is poignant and reminiscent of the Sirius building in Sydney which was transformed from a social housing building into a luxury apartment complex.

A Skyscraper of Houses

Hooba Design Group has developed a new typology made up of stacked villas. This proposal aims to re-interpret the typical residential building in order to achieve a more ‘traditional’ style of familial home within a smaller footprint.

If popular this is design typology that I can see being adopted through Southeast Asia where multi-generational living is common. This style of building can provide multi-generational households with the requisite space while also reducing urban sprawl.

Frida Escobedo to Design The Met’s Extension

This will be the museum’s first wing designed by a woman and will increase gallery space by 50 percent.
